My journey

Techno Music is ever evolving as long you give yourself the freedom to evolve. At least that is my current experience. For a few years now I am focussing on vinyl. Not that I believe that this is “true DJ-ing” or that it gives the “ultimate analogue sound”. Nope, both those ideas are fundamentally flawed. The reason for my vinyl focus is that it comes with many limitations which let’s me explore and dig deeper through spending more time with the songs (I think) I like. For now this provides me with knowledge to create my “own” style.

My Technique

In the very early days, minidisc was for me the first steps into creating music by cutting, copying and pasting sound frames. Next came Traktor S4 mk1 gear with a F1 controller for sample layering, creating songs. After I used actual existing songs to mix and merge like DJ’s do. That evolved into the normal CDJ club gear that I trained on helped with the expertise and experience of London Sound Academy (LSA). From beginner to elite I started to use vinyl records into my sets. Later on I only used vinyl, playing out as such if the clubs booth allowed.

My Gear

Gear is not so important, yet it is always on our minds so: I use a DJM-V10. For effects, both the RMX-1000 and a CXM-1978. Three 1200s, a Moog 37, Roland SP-404 (and if need be) two CDJ’s. Rarely I play three vinyl records at the same time. I do play live with the 37 and 404 (very basic stuff). Further I have some other gear like a Korg ElecTribe MX (the EMX-1 [sd]) and a DAW using Ableton. My homestudio upgrade is currently in my head only and I am seeking time, resources and a decision to execute and realise one of the ideas.
